Thanks to funding from The John Weston Fund – Foundation Derbyshire, Wirksworth Music Centre is now looking for a Guitar Teacher to join our dedicated and successful Saturday morning team of music teachers and students. Read on to find out more about the role and how to apply.
Role
- Are you passionate about inspiring young minds with your engaging teaching style and wide-ranging love of music? Wirksworth Music Centre has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Guitar Teacher. The role is to create and direct two new groups, a novice and more experienced group, of school age musicians in our well established music centre, offering them the chance to enjoy playing together when they may otherwise be practising their guitars alone
- The sessions are held on Saturday mornings in term time at Anthony Gell school, Wirksworth, from 9.00 a.m. until 12.00 noon
- This is a self-employed post
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement a positive and supportive learning environment
- Engage with the students so they enjoy the many educational and social benefits of attending
- Share your broad love of music to inspire and nurture musical skill levels
- Encourage creativity
- Offer a quality and enjoyable musical experience based on group and individual needs and aims
- Collaborate with the friendly and dedicated teaching team of eight professional music directors and other staff and supporters, to coordinate music programmes and events
- Prepare children for end of term performances to their supportive families and friends.
Main Requirements
- Experience of teaching school age students
- Ability to perform at a high level on guitar
- Versatility to write or adapt parts to suit the students’ levels and guitar styles where necessary
- Excellent communication skills
- Availability for the weekly rehearsals and end-of-term concerts
- Enhanced DBS check or willingness to apply
- Hold the right to work in the UK
Potential start date: As soon as possible
Rate of Pay: £33 per hour (from January 2025) paid half termly
Expected hours: Saturdays 9am-12noon during term time, plus occasional weekend afternoon/evening concerts
