Recorders

Recorders come in a variety of shapes and sizes and have been around since the middle ages and their rich history cannot be ignored, used by Bach to Bowie and more…

Our groups offer the chance to enjoy playing these instruments to beginners to advanced levels.

Early Days Recorders

Tutor: Paul Hunter
Ages 5 to 7
Saturdays 10.15am – 11.45am

  • Understanding pitch, pulse & rhythm
  • Learning reading skills
  • Playing simple percussion

Junior Recorders

Tutor: Jenny Acons
Ages 7 to 10

Saturdays 9.00am – 10.15am

  • Becoming more fluent and playing smoothly
  • Learning new notes and playing in new keys
  • Learning to play in 2 parts – listening and counting
  • Learning to sight-read
  • Playing mostly well-known tunes, ragtime and traditional melodies
  • Singing and playing rounds
  • Experimenting with percussion, such as chime bars, to accompany recorder

Senior Recorders

Tutor: Christopher Dixon
Ages 14 upwards
Saturdays 9am – 10:15am

  • Developing new techniques for playing more difficult repertoire
  • Learning to hold a musical line
  • Extensive repertoire from baroque and classical pieces to modern arrangements of Scott Joplin and Lennon and McCartney
  • Playing the full range of recorders to a high standard
  • Developing confident musicianship in a friendly atmosphere
