I’ve been helping out at WMC Saturday mornings since my daughter joined at a young age. At first I helped put the classrooms back at the end of morning sessions at Anthony Gell school, then moved on to registration and tuck shop as well. Eventually I was approached about becoming a trustee – and it was my own very happy memories of attending a music centre in Derby that convinced me to join. I recall hugely enjoying playing in a large group and making new friends outside school, and welcomed the chance to help give our young musicians the same opportunities I had. All told I’ve now been involved for over 10 years one way or another – in any capacity, it’s a fantastic and very positive way to contribute to the community and provide a wonderful facility to young people.
