Ever since being at school I have loved being involved with singing groups, whether in the school choir, the nativity play, on stage in a musical theatre production or being one voice in a big choral work. So when I became a primary classroom teacher, after studying french horn at the RNCM – teaching singing and encouraging young people to find their love for singing has always been one of my main passions. Over the last 22 years I have led and expanded the Singing Team for the Derby & Derbyshire Music Partnership, putting singing at the heart of what we do. The Singing Sensations at Wirksworth Music Centre is one of my favourite parts of the week – children come along from many local schools; we are a very friendly bunch, and we sing because we enjoy it so much….and the standards they reach makes me smile from within.
