Christopher Dixon has been a part of Wirksworth Music Centre almost since it began. He currently directs our Senior Recorder group.

Christopher came to Wirksworth in 1980, when he took appointments as teacher at Anthony Gell School and organist at St. Mary’s Parish Church. At the school, he taught Mathematics to all year groups and Music at A-Level. Over the years he has performed with many local musicians, playing organ, harpsichord and piano, singing and conducting, including long stints as conductor of Belper Singers and of Wirksworth Community Orchestra. He has now retired from school teaching, but remains Director of Music in the Parish of Wirksworth and Alderwasley, where he plays the organs, conducts the choirs and sings.

At Wirksworth Music Centre, Christopher delights in seeing the eager faces of teenagers at nine o’clock on a Saturday morning, and particularly enjoys his chocolate bar with a cup of tea at break time.
